Forming fully devoted followers of Jesus

We are excited to introduce new curriculum in our Pre-K and Elementary Sunday School classes! ReThink Orange, the curriculum developer, focuses on the need for the church (represented by yellow “the light”) and parents (represented by red “the heart”) to partner in growing our children’s faith. It offers great opportunities for parents to engage with their kiddos in fun, connectional ways that encourage families to live beyond the “one hour a week” and continue sharing their faith throughout the week. First Look, the curriculum created for Pre-K, focuses on three basic truths: “God made me.” “God loves me.” And “Jesus wants to be my friend forever.” 252 Basics, the elementary-aged curriculum, is based upon scripture found in the Gospel of Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” (And I can, too!) The three basic truths from First Look are expanded upon and reinforced as “I can trust God no matter what.” “I need to make the wise choice.” And “I should treat others the way that I want to be treated.” Each month, we explore a new facet of who God is and what He teaches us through Bible lessons which relate to a monthly focus and a monthly scripture. For the month of February, we will be talking a lot about love. Our preschoolers will be hearing stories that share that Jesus’ love for them is SO BIG! And our elementary kiddos will discover how Jesus is the ultimate example of love. Each week, through interactive games and activities, skits, crafts, and innovative video segments which tell the weekly Bible story in a relatable and entertaining way, we share the stories of the Bible and learn to share our faith with each other. If you would like to learn more about RethinkOrange, I encourage you to visit the website at Also, if you’d like to check out what we’re doing, please come visit! We think you’ll want to join in the fun and add your name to our teacher rotation!

Our Sunday School hour kicks off with “large group” where our pre-K and elementary kiddos gather together for music and worship, including reciting the Lord’s Prayer. After that, we break into separate groups for our lessons and activities. We are currently working on learning songs to share with the congregation on an upcoming Sunday morning, so regular attendance is strongly encouraged. Look for more information to follow!

Wednesday evening’s JAM (“Jesus and Me”) group for elementary-aged kiddos has begun a Bible study on the “Armor of God”. We worked to trace our bodies so that we can begin adding our “armor” each week. Our first lesson focused on “fear” and we had a great time re-enacting the story of Jesus and the disciples and the storm, creating our own wind and rain. Each week we will learn about another piece of God’s armor and how it can protect us. This is a fun, engaging and memorable opportunity for kids to learn together and grow in faith with their peers. If your child hasn’t joined us yet, it’s not too late!

Our Children’s Ministries Committee met recently and we had some great discussions about Sunday School, Wednesday night programming, upcoming events, volunteer recruiting, outreach opportunities, and so much more. I am personally grateful to each of them for their passion for this ministry, their willingness to serve and to share their experience and knowledge, and their enthusiasm for the upcoming year and the ways in which we can work together to grow this ministry.

Each day in February, I encourage you to share with your kiddos that Jesus’ love for us is SO BIG!

Serving an Awesome God,
