Ash Wednesday Service at DPUMC

Our Ash Wednesday service this year will begin at 6:30 pm with a unique learning experience for children, youth and adults.  Through scripture readings and sharing of its historical context, we will participate in the burning of palm leaves, signifying our intent to acknowledge our sins before God and seek forgiveness.  Join us for dinner at 6 pm, and then journey with us outdoors as we remember our God, our Protector, and unburden ourselves from sin and selfishness.  You will be encouraged to write down a sin for which you seek repentance, and place it into the fire to be consumed.

From there, we will enter the sanctuary and prepare to receive the imposition of ashes as a remembrance of our mortality and need for salvation.  We believe that this year’s Ash Wednesday service will be a memorable one of sharing among our church families and hope that it will promote a better understanding of why we observe this holy season.
