Sunday Mornings

Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:40 am

At Deer Park United Methodist Church, we promise to surround our children in a community of love and forgiveness that they may grow in their service to others. We welcome children in worship, but a nursery is provided for infants through pre-kindergarten for all worship services and many church-wide events and activities.

We are committed to caring for your child, so all of our nursery staff have been CPR/First Aid and Safe Sanctuary trained. We ask that upon arriving at the nursery, you sign your child in and leave your contact information. This allows us to reach you if you are needed.

Little ones LOVE sing — and that’s why we start out each Sunday morning in a larger group setting to join the elementary students for music and worship!  We learn music and movement to some of our favorite songs from Go Fish Guys, VBS, and other sources provided through our curriculum.  We close large group time with an offering and the Lord’s Prayer.   Then, we break into our respective age-level groups for our Bible story, lessons and activities.

We are using the First Look curriculum with our Preschoolers.  Our Preschoolers love seeing “Ollie” the owl and his friends in their video segment each week as he shares true stories from the Bible.  This curriculum is based on 3 Basic Truths:  “God Made Me.”  “God Loves Me.” and “Jesus Wants to Be My Friend Forever.”  Each Bible story is tied to one of these Basic Truths, as well as a monthly scripture passage, which is reinforced each week with various activities, crafts and games.

Our Elementary-aged curriculum, 252 Basics, is based upon scripture found in Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men.”  Isn’t that how we as parents all want our children to grow — physically, mentally, and spiritually?  By examining the life of Jesus, we see how God intends us to live our lives.  The Three Basic Truths shared in 252 Basics are:  “I need to make the wise choice.”  “I can trust God no matter what.” and “I should treat others the way I want to be treated.”  Monthly Life Applications, such as “Forgiveness”, “Courage”, “Persistence”, “Kindness”, “Patience”, etc. are reinforced through monthly Scripture and true stories from the Bible which relate to the Life App and the scripture passage.

We begin our Sunday mornings with music and worship, collection of offering and reciting the Lord’s Prayer in a larger group setting.  Then, we break into age-appropriate groups for our weekly Bible lessons.  Our weekly video segment retells the Bible story in a unique way which elementary-aged kids can easily relate to.  Through games, crafts, and storytelling, we learn more about the Bible story and learn our monthly scripture passage as well.
